Where do your creations come from and how are they made?
All our items (rugs, placemats, wall decorations, etc.) are entirely handmade in Madagascar. We work directly with local artisans located on the Big Island. This short supply chain allows us to promote centuries-old expertise while selecting premium raw materials (Sisal, Raffia, cotton...).
How do I care for my natural fiber items?
Vegetable fibers are robust but do not like prolonged exposure to water:
- Daily: Vacuum regularly with moderate power, without a rotating brush (flat nozzle), so as not to pull on the fibers.
- In case of a stain: Act quickly. Dab gently with a clean cloth (never rub). To absorb liquids or grease, sprinkle with Fuller's earth or baking soda, let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum up the dry residue.
My item has slight irregularities compared to the photo, is that normal?
Yes, and this guarantees complete authenticity.
Each product is a unique, handcrafted piece. Slight variations in dimensions, execution, or color shades are completely normal and bear witness to the artisan's touch. Rest assured that these unique characteristics do not in any way affect the robustness and overall quality of our products, which remain perfectly durable and functional.
Can I install my rug or wall decor outdoors?
Our Sisal and Raffia collections are primarily designed for indoor use. However, they can occasionally adorn a shaded patio on sunny days.
Sun: prolonged exposure to direct UV rays could dull the original color of the fibers.
Water: if your items get wet (rain, garden watering, spilled water...), don't worry. Mold only appears if the item remains exposed to high humidity for several days (avoid bathrooms, for example). In other words, if your item gets soaked, dry it as soon as possible. The color of the fiber will change, but it will lose none of its intrinsic qualities.
Do your items (especially placemats) withstand heat?
Yes, absolutely. Sisal and Raffia are excellent natural thermal insulators. You can place hot plates or dishes straight from the oven on your placemats without any problem: they will perfectly protect your furniture from the heat.
However, as they are completely dry plant fibres, they are highly flammable.
Safety warning: Under no circumstances expose your items to direct flames (tea lights without holders, fireplace sparks, barbecues) as this may cause immediate combustion and a very rapid fire. Always maintain a safe distance from any source of ignition.
